There is nothing finer than treating someone (in addition to oneself) to fine dining and fine art, and if it can be done in the same place, all the merrier! We checked out the Klimt “The Magic of Line” exhibit as well as the very fine Herb Ritts one. Behold our marvelous lunch at The Restaurant at the top of the mountain in the Getty Center Museum in Los Angeles, which included a “black and white” Herb Ritts themed menu!
- Tostada with perfectly cooked pork belly, green apple and smear of pear purée. (From the Herb Ritts inspired menu)
- Gorgeous sea scallops seared to perfection on bits of braised beef with wild and crazy mushrooms and cauliflower
- Just look at those sea scallops and lucious swipe of squash purée!
- Squid ink! Black and white ravioli stuffed with sweet potato, garnished with mascarpone, king oyster mushrooms, black tuscan kale, pine nuts and squid ink. (From the Herb Ritts inspired menu)
- Vanilla bean and dark chocolate ice cream with cheeky shortbread cookies. (From the Herb Ritts inspired menu)
- Travertine at the Getty – beautifully hewn stone from Italy makes up the beautiful buildings
- Getty goodness – organic curves of rock
- I am a Herb Ritts model, evidently. Believe it or not, my black and white wardrobe choice was pure coincidence
- Leaning on the architecture, what better way to digest a magnificent lunch than a walk through such magnificent grounds
They used a nice amount of “brown butter” (beurre noisette) in many of their recipes, I’m going to integrate this more into my cooking. That, and making my own excitement-filled pasta.
