Naturally, once of the first things I do once I get back to Montreal is to get in the kitchen and cook. A close friend of mine had the good sense to have a birthday and so a dinner party was had.
- Homemade ricotta goodness – ever have too much milk in the house? Just make cheese.
- A little apéro plate of Spanish pata negra chorizo sliced paper thin, three cheeses: morbier, stilton and a blue, separated by a line of bleuets, just because I had them on hand.
- Little Green Crackers – apricot and multi-seed rainbow crisps topped with a mixture of homemade ricotta, wilted baby spinach and garlic.
- And this is just the beginning: little green crackers, fresh figs enrobed in prosciutto and toasted pine nuts (prepared by my guest I.), and the plate of charcuteries
- Quindals: I bought this in Spain for a mere 10 euros, and as the shopkeeper had promised, it was exquisite.
- Let the cooking begin…
- A variety of delicious sausages from the Atwater Market splashing around with onion and tomatoes and a dash or Marsala wine. The starring sausages are: cranberry and apple, spinach, veal and shallots, white wine and shallots.
- I.’s lovely contribution of pork chops marinated in dijon and fresh sprigs of rosemary. To be popped into the oven for 20-30 minutes.
- Exotic 4-sausage and tomato pasta toss, decorated with shredded baby spinach
- Baby bok choy, sautéed in garlic and black bean sauce. Made by I., I positively loved the crunch and tang of this dish.
- The final spread of the evening. Artisanal chocolate followed suite.
